Vivaldi is a remote access library platform, providing rights holders with the opportunity to distribute their content through a fully supported network. The books, educational materials or scientific documents can be accessed online or via a one of many virtual reading rooms set up all over Russia and the CIS. Virtual reading rooms can currently be found in all major universities of these countries, and are spreading to libraries and universities across the world, with a steadily growing body of literature on offer through Vivaldi. Access rights are highly flexible, with options for putting multiple parameters in place simultaneously, including access rights settings based on document type, user type, and method and location of access. Different levels of access can be provided, including the ability to read part of a document or the whole document, as well as download and printing options.

The ready-made system architecture allows the rights holder to upload their copyrighted material to the network via a document server, safe in the knowledge that the data is secure and not secured elsewhere. Payments can be requested from customers in advance, before access to documents is granted, or on a subscription basis. Furthermore, loyalties for the reproduction of documents are received each time copyrighted material is printed out in a virtual reading room.

This application gives users the opportunity to browse through collections owned by libraries, universities and publishing houses. The number of accessible texts is constantly growing due to the new catalogues being connected to the database and by the addition of electronic libraries from new organizations.
